Skiing VS Snowboarding – What are the main differences?

Skiing VS Snowboarding – What are the main differences? - Moose Voyage - Best Outdoor Apparel Canada - Moose Voyage - www.moosevoyage.ca

Skiing VS Snowboarding – What are the main differences?

Generally, skiing can be easier to pick up as your feet are separated and they will face forwards down the slope, which will feel more natural. By contrast, on a snowboard both feet are clipped into the board and you will face side on to the slope, which will feel unnatural to a lot of people.

Let’s take a look at some of the key differences.

Body Position

Skiing

Skiing can be much easier to get used to as both legs move independently, and you travel with your body facing the same way as your feet. Facing forwards also gives you a much better view of the slope ahead of you than a snowboarder.

Snowboarding

Having both feet attached to a single board can be unsettling at first and takes some time getting used, to especially when you factor in your feet are not facing the direction you are moving.  Don’t forget - you won’t be facing the slope, which can make it difficult to stay aware of your surroundings.

Lifts

Skiing

Although lifts can be daunting for a beginner, skis don’t need to be unclipped on a lift and facing forward will make the experience a lot more comfortable than on a snowboard.

Snowboarding

Ski lifts can be a challenge for boarders as they need to ride with one foot unclipped. They also don’t have ski poles to help them move on and off the lift and must learn to ride off with one foot removed from the board.

Clothing

Aside from boots, the same clothing can generally be worn for skiing and snowboarding.

Layer.  Layer.  Layer.  You’ll need a baselayer, and jacket which protect you from the elements, a pair of snow pantsgloves and some warm ski socks. If you are heading to the slopes for the first time or have years of experience on the slopes you can get the best clothing from Moose Voyage that will keep you warm and dry.

5 reasons to LOVE snowshoeing

As we get into the thick of the winter months, don’t let the snow keep you from enjoying the beautiful scenery and terrain outdoors.  If you are new to the sport, want to venture off the slopes, snowboarding is an activity for all ages.

1 – Super Cost Effective

There is zero cost to head out to a trail, and you can be adventurous and find trails practically anywhere.  Other than the cost of the snowshoes, there are no lift tickets or pricey lessons.

2 – No maximum group size

It’s super fun and enjoyable for pretty much everyone, unlike how some organized group sports that may be difficult to plan, organize and keep up the game spirit.  It can be as competitive – race for time – or as casual as your group wants.

3 – No time limit

You can go for as long or as little as you like. And since there are no associated costs, you won’t feel obligated to spend the whole day if that isn’t possible.

4 – Amazing workout!

If you love to feel like you have really pushed for your workout – this is it! You probably won’t break a sweat tobogganing or downhill skiing, but this will keep you on your toes and push your tolerance.

5 – Location location location

You get the back country experience, supe conveniently. No multiple hour long drive to a resort, there is a trail waiting for you that is most likely closer than you can imagine. Think in it – being surrounded by snow, trees and silence – an unlimited view of the scenery.

Rekindle your love with the outdoors. We are fairly confident you will get hooked on it after your venture on a trail.
